This picture (a color picture by the way) shows a common sight often persisting for weeks: It doesn't really rain, but it isn't dry too. It is not foggy, but the air isn't clear too. All things are brownish grey: the sky, the river, the streets, the houses, even the plants. And the sun hasn't shown for days: Typical Rhineland weather. (In the local slang there are several words for this weather, but I'm not able to translate them.)
